“40&8” Veterans to Laud 2005 Awardees in Cincinnati 

INDIANAPOLIS  September 13, 2005   The Forty & Eight national veterans’ organization will recognize its 2005 Law Officer of the Year, City of the Year, and Americanism award winner at the organization’s national convention, Friday, September 23, 2005, at the Millenium Hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Forty & Eight 2005 Law Officer of the Year is Officer Jason Neuman (right top photo) of the St. Louis County Police Department, Missouri.  Since becoming a police officer five years ago, Officer Neuman has received numerous citations for bravery and merit.  In 2004, Officer Neuman was recognized for preventing a suicidal suspect from injuring or killing other officers, and also for two separate incidents of him rescuing citizens from burning buildings.

The Forty & Eight 2005 City of the Year is King, North Carolina.  The City of King, NC, is being recognized for its extraordinary support of veterans and its coordination with veterans groups on a host of patriotic and charitable projects; including a Kids I.D. drive, a 9-11 memorial and a new veteran’s memorial for which the city contributed a substantial portion of funds.  Appropriately, the city’s slogan is, “Patriotism is King”

The Forty & Eight 2005 Americanism Award winner is Colonel Lorenz J. Walker, USAF Ret, (right bottom photo) of Bossier City, Louisiana.  A former combat pilot, Colonel Walker’s medals include two Legion of Merits, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, thirteen Air Medals and a Bronze Star.  Colonel Walker is the Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Bossler, where as a civic leader and volunteer he has lead many significant patriotic projects, including bringing a War Veteran’s Home to the Shreveport-Bossier area, restoring monuments and memorials and leading area support for 8^th Air Force Headquarters at Barksdale AFB.

The national commander of the Forty & Eight, Chef de Chemin de Fer, Russell “Mac” McCarthy praised the three awardees, saying they exemplify a superior sense of patriotism and service to community and nation.   

“We are pleased to recognize Officer Neuman, Colonel Walker and King, North Carolina as our 2005 awardees.” said McCarthy.

McCarthy added, “We wartime veterans of the Forty & Eight also applaud our troops and rescue workers who are today in harm’s way in Afghanistan, Iraq and stricken areas of America’s southern heartland.” --- The organizaiton is currently involved in Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

Founded in 1920, the Forty & Eight is a charitable honor society of American wartime veterans.  Its programs include Nurses Training, Child Welfare, Flags for First Graders, Carville Hansens Disease Center support, VA Voluntary Service programs and a support program for American troops from Iraq and Afghanistan hospitalized in Germany.
