Anich, 402 884-2428; publiciste408@cox.net “40&8” Veterans to Laud 2005 Awardees in Cincinnati INDIANAPOLIS September 13, 2005 The Forty & Eight national veterans’ organization will recognize its 2005 Law Officer of the Year, City of the Year, and Americanism award winner at the organization’s national convention, Friday, September 23, 2005, at the Millenium Hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Forty & Eight 2005 City of the Year is King, North Carolina. The City of King, NC, is being recognized for its extraordinary support of veterans and its coordination with veterans groups on a host of patriotic and charitable projects; including a Kids I.D. drive, a 9-11 memorial and a new veteran’s memorial for which the city contributed a substantial portion of funds. Appropriately, the city’s slogan is, “Patriotism is King”
The national commander of the Forty & Eight, Chef de Chemin de Fer, Russell “Mac” McCarthy praised the three awardees, saying they exemplify a superior sense of patriotism and service to community and nation. “We are pleased to recognize Officer Neuman, Colonel Walker and King, North Carolina as our 2005 awardees.” said McCarthy. McCarthy added, “We wartime veterans of the Forty & Eight also applaud our troops and rescue workers who are today in harm’s way in Afghanistan, Iraq and stricken areas of America’s southern heartland.” --- The organizaiton is currently involved in Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Founded in 1920, the Forty & Eight is a charitable honor society of American wartime veterans. Its programs include Nurses Training, Child Welfare, Flags for First Graders, Carville Hansens Disease Center support, VA Voluntary Service programs and a support program for American troops from Iraq and Afghanistan hospitalized in Germany.
